Shoukry describes his Washington visit as positive

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has described his visit to Washington, which he wrapped up Wednesday, as positive, expressing hope for building on its results in the coming stage.

 

On his Facebook account on Thursday, Shoukry said he held bilateral talks with his US counterpart Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton, pointing out that the talks focused on means to cement strategic relations between the the United States and Egypt through the 2+2 formula at the level of the ministers of foreign affairs and defense of the two countries.

 

He continued to say " viewpoints were exchanged on a number of issues and challenges in the region".

 

The foreign minister said he met President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and means to push forward the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.

 

Shoukry said he met with heads of several US companies investing or willing to invest in Egypt, as well as members of the US Chamber of Commerce to review Egypt's economic reform program and efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to improve the economic sector and attract more investments into the country.

 

He also said that he discussed with US officials Egypt's efforts to support stability and combat terrorism in the light of the Sinai 2018 military comprehensive operation.
