President Abdel Fattah El Sisi opened on Sunday 12/8/2018 the Sohag National Museum.
During his inspection tour of the premises, Sisi was accompanied by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Antiquities Minister Khaled el Anani and senior State officials.
Sisi listened to a blow-by-blow report on the museum's establishment.
Antiquities Minister Khaled Anani said the 6,500-square-meter museum consists of six halls and showcases about 1,000 pieces.
The construction of the EGP 72 million museum started in 1993 and it was suspended in 1996, he said, adding that work on the project was on and off until it was resumed in mid 2016.
He noted that the ministry also managed to re-open in 2016 the Malawi museum which was destroyed by terrorists in 2013.
He said Sohag has 60 archaeological sites.
