Flood preparations underway with governors

Friday، 07 September 2018 - 10:03 AM

Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Atti said that preparations were underway on the ground to deal with floods in coordination with governors.

There is a 24/7 follow up via an early warning system and a flood operations room under the prime minister in anticipation of rainfall and water courses are closely monitored, he noted.

In statements to MENA on Thursday, Abdel Atti said his ministry seeks to reduce the risks of floods, adding that he inspected a number of the water catchments in Behira governorate in anticipation of the rains and floods season.

Behira Governor Hisham Amna stressed that the violators who throw wastes in the Nile River would be punished, noting that 150 violations were reported during one day.

Abdel Atti and Amna held a meeting to probe the efficiency of the relevant system, including raising the awareness of citizens to avoid throwing wastes.
