FM meets UNDP administrator in New York

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday September 22, 2018 convened with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Achim Steiner on the sidelines of the 73rd meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a statement, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry hailed bilateral relations and UNDP support for efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to conduct national reviews on the implementation of its Egypt 2030 vision.

The minister affirmed Egypt's keenness to continue technical cooperation and coordination among the Egyptian presidency of the Group of 77 and China and the UNDP leadership.

He added that Egypt pays great attention to enhancing the role played by the UN and the international multilateral system, including the process of reforming the UN development system.

Shoukry stressed that the reform process should take into consideration priorities and requirements of the Member States to implement the goals of 2030 sustainable development plan.

For his part, Steiner described Egypt as a main UNDP partner in the Middle East and North Africa.

He hailed positive developments achieved by the country at all levels within its economic reform program.

The UNDP top official praised efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to implement Egypt 2030 vision.

The meeting also mulled UNDP's evaluation of steps taken for reforming the UN development system.
