Planning ministers of Egypt, Pakistan confer on bilateral cooperation

The planning ministers of Egypt and Pakistan met on  Monday 24/9/2018 to discuss bilateral cooperation between their countries.

Hala el Saeid of Egypt told her Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Khusro that her country was able in a short time to introduce many structural reforms and address root causes of some problems related to the exchange rate.

The flotation of the Egyptian pound was in the heart of an economic reform plan and it did have a positive effect on the economy, Saeid stressed.

She also talked about efforts to rationalize energy subsidies, while addressing impacts on the society through a number of social protection programs, such as the Takaful and Karama.

Khusro, for his part, praised Egypt's experiment in fighting terrorism and maintaining security.

He was also pleased with Egypt's success story in upgrading the infrastructure.

The Pakistani minister also spoke highly of the New Suez Canal, seeing in it a "unique" experiment, particularly where the funding of the project is concerned.
