Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Wednesday offered his condolences to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese over the victims of a recent terror attack in Minya.
The premier asserted that the attack would not affect the national unity of the people.
"Such desperate attempts by the powers of darkness and extremism will not succeed in tearing up the national fabric or dissuading the state from proceeding with the march of development and progress," he said at his meeting the pontiff at the Cathedral of St. Mark in Abbassiya.
Madbouli, who was in China attending China International Import- Expo at the time of the incident, told Pope Tawadros that he contacted the ministers concerned to take the necessary measures to catch the perpetrators.
For his part, the Pope welcomed the prime minister, saying that these coward acts will not affect the Egyptian people’s unity.
He thanked relevant ministers for their great efforts to deal with the incident and support the victims’ families and the wounded.
Seven people were killed in Friday’s terrorist attack, which targeted a bus carrying a number of Copts while returning from the Monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor in Minya.
