President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is scheduled to attend a mini-summit on Libya during his current visit to Italy.

The mini-summit, which will be held in Italy's Palermo city, will also be attended by the leaders of Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, Chad and Italy, as well as the prime minister of Russia and UN envoy Ghassan Salama.

Libyan Commander Khalifa Haftar and Prime Minister Fayez Sarraj will also be present.

Sisi's aide Sherif Ismail will, meanwhile, represent Egypt at the Palermo summit to discuss the various  aspects of the Libyan problem, with 30 countries taking part, said Presidential Dpokesman Bassam Radi on Tuesday13/11/2018.

Radi reiterated Egypt's support for a political solution to the Libyan problem in line with the 2015 Skhirat Libyan Political Agreement (LPA).

The solution should be Libyan in the first place, Radi said, urging support for national establishments in the Arab country, atop of which the military and police.

According to him, it would be very difficult to reach a solution in Libya without having an effective army.

Egypt strongly supports the initiative of UN envoy Salama, Radi noted.
