Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki inspected the counter-terrorism center for the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) established in Egypt upon recommendations of the conference of the defense ministers of the CEN-SAD nations.
The conference was held in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh in March 2016. Zaki was expounded about the components of the center which was set up by the Armed Forces during a record time on an area of 61,900 square meters and fully equipped with audio and visual devices and modern computers.
Establishing the center targets coordinating cooperation among the CEN-SAD member countries regarding issues of mutual interest topped by fighting terrorism and enhancing joint political, economic and security relations.
Zaki highlighted the keenness of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on providing support to the CEN-SAD members’ states within the framework of enhancing ongoing partnership and cooperation to counter terrorism and back security and stability efforts in the region.
Accompanied by a number of top brass, the minister inspected the center's building which consists of four floors grouping service places, parking areas, offices and a conference hall that can accommodate 200 persons besides a meeting room for the board of directors, an operations room for crisis management, a press center and a library.
Zaki hailed the modern capabilities of the center which contributes to boosting cooperation with CEN-SAD member states.
