Environment Minister & IUCN discuss boosting coop. in biodiversity

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad discussed on Tuesday 20/11/2018 with Jane Smart, the head of the biodiversity conservation group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Regional Director at the IUCN Regional Office for West Asia (ROWA) Hany El Shaer means of boosting bilateral cooperation in the field of biodiversity.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed a national strategy for biodiversity prepared by the IUCN in cooperation with the ministry's nature protection department.

For her part, Fouad suggested that the strategy to be presented for discussion at the the ministry's department to contribute to building workers' capacity, including young people.

On his part, El Shaer underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation with Egypt in achieving the goals of biodiversity, especially in light of Cairo's two-year presidency of the UN Biodiversity Conference COP14.

The IUCN is willing to support Egypt in implementing all requirements of the biodiversity national strategy, he said.

The attendees agreed to organized a workshop comprising all partners and bodies concerned in January 2019 to probe the strategy.
