President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Thursday directed the government to go ahead with its plan to turn into a digital government, through training cadres on how to work in a digital environment equipped with the latest technologies.

The move is aimed at establishing a sophisticated and digitally interconnected government system that provides the latest services for citizens in a simple and flexible way.

Sisi's directives came during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Communications Minister Amr Talaat.

The meeting reviewed the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's plan of action and underway programs and projects, especially a project to establish and develop a digital system in the new administrative capital, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said.

President Sisi clarified that the state gives a high priority to the ICT sector, given the main role it plays in the economic and social development strategies, the spokesman added.

For his part, Talaat posted the president on the ministry's vision to apply the digital system into the government bodies, as it could help provide a unified information network and electronic platforms among the different state institutions and bodies, and allow monitoring the government performance, as well as offering liaison offices for public services.
