Egypt renews commitment to promoting human rights

The Foreign Ministry on Monday 10/12/2018 reaffirmed Egypt's adherence to promoting human rights under its Constitution and the state's commitment towards its people "first and foremost".

In a statement marking the Human Rights Day, the ministry said that the 2014 Constitution laid down unprecedented provisions in the Egyptian constitutional history for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The government has integrated human rights into the curricula and established a permanent high panel to develop a national human rights and capacity-building strategy and deal with international human rights mechanisms, the ministry said.

Despite challenges, Egypt continues to build a modern democratic state based on the values of citizenship, equal rights, freedoms, public duties, non-discrimination and the rule of law, it concluded.
