Sisi attends celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended Monday 24/12/2018 a celebration held marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The celebration is organized by the Egyptian Sports Federation for Mental Disabilities in cooperation with the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Social Solidarity.
The event started with the screening of a documentary about the achievements of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the federation and the great abilities of the mentally disabled in creating hope in life with their determination and willpower.
The documentary reflected appreciation of the mentally disabled and the support offered by the state for them, referring to the Egyptian Paralympic Committee.
Mariam and Michael sang a Christmas song during the celebration.
Head of the Egyptian Sports Federation for Mental Disabilities Amal Mobdi thanked President Sisi on behalf of the mentally disabled citizens for his constant support to them.
Addressing the celebration, Mobid said Egypt is the first country in the world to empower people with disabilities, referring to a papyrus stating "do not make fun of a blind, do not belittle a dwarf, do not stand in the way of persons with limpness, do not frown in the face of others and do not shout when they make mistakes."
She noted that the sanctioning of the law on disabilities four years ago has changed the face of life. Even Parliament members from the disabled were elected and the first mentally disabled TV presenter in the world is one of the federation's champions.
The federation, in cooperation with the ministry, are trying to offer all the needs of the champions including sports, social, artistic and medical activities, she added.
A number of federation champions sang a patriotic song during the celebration.
Minister of Youth and Sport Dr Ashraf Sobhi said he feels very happy to participate in the celebration which represents a breakthrough in new efforts and initiatives over the coming years.
The minister praised the care offered by the president and the efforts exerted by Egypt's youths in this respect.
He pointed out to announcing 2016 as the year of people with disabilities during the 3rd national conference for youth, held in Ismailia.
Sobhi said the ministry draws up plans and carries out programs and projects for people with disabilities to hone their skills and merge them into the society through giving them the opportunity to practice all cultural, artistic and sports activities across the country in cooperation with the state institutions concerned.
The ministry, upon directives by the presidency, exerts all efforts in including the disabled in the society, he said, referring to the participation of Egypt's champions in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
