Sisi: Egypt keen to deepen strategic ties with US

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Thursday asserted that Egypt is keen on fostering bilateral cooperation and deepening the long-standing strategic relationship with the US, given Washington's pivotal role in supporting regional stability.
Also, President Sisi said that Cairo looks forward to strengthening coordination with the US in different political and security files of common concern.
The president made the remarks during a meeting with visiting US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Head of General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the latest developments of the Palestinian issue and ways for reviving the stalled Middle East peace process, the spokesman added.
In this regard, President Sisi stressed Egypt's firm stance to reach a just and comprehensive solution, which guarantees the Palestinian people's rights, including the establishment of their independent state, based on UN Security Council resolutions and international law, the spokesman noted.
For his part, Pompeo conveyed the greetings of US President Donald Trump to President Sisi, congratulating Cairo for inaugurating Al Fattah El Aleem Mosque and the Cathedral of the Nativity in the New Administrative Capital (NEC), the presidential spokesman said.
He praised such a move which reflects Egypt's efforts to back the principles of fraternity and co-existence in the community, the spokesman said.
Also, the US secretary of state commended President Sisi's efforts to achieve sustainable development in Egypt.
The US top diplomat asserted that his country is interested in cementing strategic ties with Egypt, in addition to stepping up joint coordination on regional files, especially in light of the political weight that Egypt enjoys in the region.
The meeting addressed the fight against terrorism and means of countering the extremist thought, the spokesman said.
In this regard, President Sisi affirmed that Egypt is determined to continue its strenuous efforts to uproot this scourge, reiterating the importance of boosting cooperation with Washington on all aspects to bolster anti-terrorism efforts, the spokesman noted.
For his part, Pompeo lauded Egypt's decisive efforts in countering terrorism over the past period, asserting that Egypt is a key partner in combating cross-border terrorism.
The two parties, also, touched on a number of regional files, notably the Libyan, Syrian and Yemeni crises.
In this respect, President Sisi and Pompeo called for reaching a political settlement to those crises, while preserving their territorial integrity and their national institutions.MENA
