FM: Egypt continues regional, int't efforts in peace-keeping

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Friday said that Egypt proceeds with its regional and international efforts in the area of peace-keeping and peace-building, for bringing about a sustainable global peace.
Shoukry's remarks came during a meeting with UN Under Secretary General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said.
During the meeting, the foreign minister added that Cairo is keen on ensuring the operational and strategic success of UN peacekeeping missions, according to the spokesman.
The two sides, also, touched on means of strengthening the effectiveness UN peacekeeping operations, the spokesman noted.
For his part, Lacroix thanked the Egyptian government for its ongoing contribution to UN peacekeeping missions and its support of the Action for Peace's initiative.
The initiative calls for UN member states to reach more effective results with regard to the performance of UN peacekeeping forces.
The talks focused on the latest developments in Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and the Central African Republic, the spokesman said.
In this regard, the UN official lauded Egypt's good offices to achieve stability in Mali, highlighting the importance of the joint UN-AU role to guarantee stability in the Sahel region.
Moreover, Lacroix expressed the UN keenness to continue close cooperation and coordination with Egypt in all topics related to Africa, especially as the country is taking over the AU presidency in 2019. MENA
