Madbouli chairs higher committee concerned with African Cup of Nations 2019

  • Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Monday18/2/2019 chaired a meeting of the higher committee in charge of the organization of the African Cup of Nations Championship for 2019, to be held in Egypt in June.

    The meeting aims at coordinating among the various parties concerned and following up on the various preparations made by the ministries to set the stage for the event.

    Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Tourism Rania el Mashat, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait, Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawi, Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi, Head of the National Media Authority Hussein Zein, Head of the State Information Service Diaa Rashwan and representatives of various bodies attended the meeting.

    Madbouli highlighted the importance of the pan-African event which provides a good opportunity for marketing for the state especially in view of Egypt's assuming the presidency of the African Union.

    The premier assigned the Tourism Ministry to organize special tourism programs for the African players, delegations, guests and fans. Also, the minister of communication was directed to provide all necessary coverage including communications or internet connections for the African delegations in the surroundings of the playgrounds.

    He also asserted the necessity of providing comprehensive healthcare in anticipation of any injuries during the matches, reiterating that the number of ambulances should be enough to deal with any emergencies. 

    Meanwhile, the minister of youth and sports reviewed the estimated budget for hosting the championship including the costs and revenues of matches broadcast as well as preparations of the stadiums.

    He also briefed them on the ministry's efforts to qualify and development the stadiums in the governorates of Cairo, Port Said, Suez, Alexandria, Ismailia and El Salam.
