Sisi asserts Egypt's support to Iraq unity, sovereignty

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted Egypt's firm stance towards Iraq, reiterating Cairo's support for Iraq's national unity and territorial sovereignty.
Sisi's remarks were made during his meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Borham Saleh on the fringe of the Arab-European Summit.
During the meeting, Sisi affirmed Egypt's confidence in the ability of the Iraqi national institutions in overcoming all hardships and forming a government representing all Iraqi people.
The two sides exchanged viewpoints on a set of Arab and regional issues of common interest. They also agreed on intensifying coordination in the face of challenges besetting the region with the aim of achieving peace and stability for the nations of the region, said Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.
Sisi renewed his congratulations to the Iraqi president over assuming office in October after elections that were held in a transparent and democratic atmosphere.
He expressed appreciation for the depth of the Egyptian-Iraqi relations, asserting Egypt's keenness on pushing forward bilateral relations at the various political, economic, trade and cultural levels.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi president praised the close and friendly bilateral ties, asserting his country's keenness on furthering such relations to wider horizons in the coming phase.
He also extolled the prominent role played by Egypt in reinforcing joint Arab action in the face of current challenges, noting that Egypt is a model to be followed in maintaining stability and achieving economic and social progress in the Arab world.
