Foreign Ministry rejects US report on human rights in Egypt

Cairo rejects what has been included in a US report on human rights in Egypt, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said on Thursday, stressing that Egypt does not recognize the authenticity of such reports.

Hafez made the remarks in response to questions asked by the press about a part on Egypt included in the US State Department’s annual human rights report for 2018.

The part related to Egypt in this report and other similar reports depends on undocumented data and reports that are provided by non-governmental parties and organizations, driven by adverse political stances, he said.

The report has not tackled the Egyptian government’s efforts to promote human rights conditions and activate relevant constitutional guarantees, nor the great steps taken in the field of religious freedoms, strengthening the principle of citizenship and maintaining economic and social rights for all citizens, Hafez noted.

The spokesman underscored the importance of respecting the principle of non-interference in internal affairs of countries.
