Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Mohab Mamish said that the Suez Canal and its economic zone are important parts of the Belt and Road Initiative given the waterway’s strategic location and economic significance.
The Suez Canal has always been the most vital and fastest waterway that links the Mediterranean and Red seas as well as the Asian and African continents, Mamish added during preparatory meetings of the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation here.
Mamish said the Suez Canal has been also the most commonly used waterway for shipping and maritime transport purposes between Asia and Europe.
The Egyptian political leadership under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has sought to make the best use of the canal's location in order to achieve a comprehensive economic development on one hand and serve the global trade flows on the other hand, Mamish said.
Mamish pointed out to a package of legislation that has been issued to enable the Suez Canal to be one of the world's most important zones that are capable of attracting various kinds of projects and industries.
