Presidential Activity April 2019

 On 4/4/2019, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated the Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research. The forum is held under the theme "Higher Education and Scientific Research between the Present and Future."

On 23/4/2019, President Sisi confirmed Egypt's full support for the Sudanese people's free will for forming their future. In his speech at the inaugural session of a consultative summit on Sudan, he added that today's meeting asserts keenness of the participants to enhance African joint action for solidarity with Sudan which is passing through a critical time in its history.

On 24/4/2019, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi hosts the meeting of the African Union (AU)'s Troika Summit and the chairmanship of the Libya committee in the African body.

President's meetings with officials

April 2: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, the central bank governor and the ministers of planning, trade and public business sector, as well as other officials. President Sisi directed the government to cut public expenditure and go ahead with monetary reforms to improve the country's financial capacity and provide necessary resources for enhancing basic services offered to citizens in all fields.

April 3: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker ordered continuing exerting efforts to implement electricity interconnection projects with the neighboring countries. Sisi said that such projects will enhance mutual interests and optimize the use of power throughout the year. The president also ordered to finalize the implementation of new projects of electricity and work on developing power plants as per the set timetables to improve services offered to citizens.

April 6: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reviewed with members of the board of trustees of Bibliotheca of Alexandrina (BA) efforts of enhancing the values of peace, tolerance, accepting the other as well as renouncing violence and hatred. The meeting took up also endeavors of developing scientific research and establishing several universities via twin-ship agreements with major international universities in order to hone the skills of talented youths in all fields.  

April 14: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and the ministers of electricity, planning, local development, communication and housing. President Sisi directed the government to regularly follow up the under-construction projects in the New Administrative Capital (NAC). Sisi also ordered the government to routinely monitor the implementation status of national projects nationwide until they are completed on schedule in accordance with the highest quality and safety standards and the most advanced technologies.

April 15: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Prime Minister Moustafa Madboli and the Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfik in the presence of chairmen of a host of international companies specialized in manufacturing weaving and textile. President Sisi stressed that the State is keen on developing the weaving and textile factories affiliated to the public business sector via benefiting from the expertise of major international firms in this domain.

April 17: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi chaired a meeting in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, in addition to the ministers of finance, health, and communications and the Port Said governor, among others. Sisi ordered to finalize preparations for the first phase of the comprehensive health insurance system. The president's directives came within the framework of the state's keenness to start a new stage of providing various medical services to all citizens, in accordance with international standards.

Field Tours

April 4: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated the Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research. The forum is held under the theme "Higher Education and Scientific Research between the Present and Future." President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Egypt is in need of changing its education culture and methods to deal with the issue. In this regard, he called on Egyptian scientists and citizens to do their best for keeping pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

April 4: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi made a tour of the exhibition of the Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research that kicked off earlier Thursday at the New Administrative Capital. The opening session of the forum, which bears the theme "Higher Education and Scientific Research between the Present and Future", was attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madboli, Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki and Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb, as well as other state officials.

April 14: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inspected Rod el Farag axis in preparation for its inauguration. The bridge was designed and built according to the latest quality standards. Sisi watched a documentary on the construction phases of the bridge. The bridge, built by the armed forces in cooperation with a large number of civil construction companies, is expected to enter the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest bridge in width over a waterway, at 66.8 meters.

April 16: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inspected the renovated Mohamed Naguib military base in the city of Alamain.  Sisi got firsthand information about search operations and measures to upgrade combat efficiency.

April 20: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi cast his ballot in the referendum on the constitutional amendments in Martyr Mostafa Youssri school in Cairo's Heliopolis district.

April 24: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi visited the tomb of unknown soldier on the occasion of Sinai Liberation Day. The president laid a wreath at the tomb.

April 30: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended the Labor Day celebration organized by Egypt Trade Union Federation (ETUF) in Alexandria. Sisi honored a number of laborers and labor leaders in appreciation of their efforts to push forward the development process forward over the past few years nationwide.

African Union (AU)'s Troika Summit 

April 24: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi hosts the meeting of the African Union (AU)'s Troika Summit and the chairmanship of the Libya committee in the African body to discuss the political and security situations in Libya and means to contain the current crisis and eradicate terrorism.

Official Visits to Egypt

April 3: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met UN Secretary General António Guterres. President Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness to support the ongoing reform process of the United Nations to increase the efficiency of its mechanisms. He also emphasized the state's interest in bringing significant improvements in the organization's services and activities.

April 6: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at Ittihadiya Presidential Palace. President Sisi reviewed with Russian Foreign Minister means of supporting bilateral relations in addition to the key projects implemented by the two countries in Egypt. The president reviewed Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism, with Lavrov asserting Russia’s support for these efforts and its determination to continue coordination and cooperation at the level of the bodies concerned.

April 14: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting with visiting commander of the Libyan army Khalifa Haftar. They discussed the latest developments in Libya.

April 14: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed that his country is keen on continuing consultation and boosting cooperation with Portugal. Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with visiting Portuguese Minister of National Defense João Gomes Cravinho. Asking to convey his greetings to Portugal’s President Marcelo de Sousa, Sisi praised the strong ties between Cairo and Lisbon, citing the latest visits by senior officials from the two countries, including his visit to Portugal in 2016, and de Sousa’s visit to Egypt in April 2018, as well as their get-together in New York on the fringe of the UN General Assembly meetings in September 2018.

April 21: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo. During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments of the Palestinian cause.

April 22: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Monday 22/4/2019 Arab sports ministers at the Ittihadiya Palace.

Consultative summit on Sudan 

April 23: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi confirmed Egypt's full support for the Sudanese people's free will for forming their future. In his speech at the inaugural session of a consultative summit on Sudan, he added that today's meeting asserts keenness of the participants to enhance African joint action for solidarity with Sudan which is passing through a critical time in its history. The meeting is meant to activate the principle of seeking African solutions to African problems, added the president.  

President's Foreign Visits

President Sisi’s visit to West Africa region and the US

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi started on April 7, 2019 a tour to Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal and the United States. President Sisi's foreign tour to the West Africa region comes within the framework of Egypt's keenness to intensify communication and coordination with its African brothers and to further strengthen its relations with the countries of the continent in various fields, especially by strengthening mutual cooperation on the economic  ، trade and investment levels.

During the African tour, the president held bilateral talks with the leaders of Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal, addressing mechanisms of enhancing bilateral cooperation with Egypt. The President's visit to the US capital of Washington comes at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, in the framework of a series of meetings between the two presidents in order to strengthen mutual relations and discuss a number of regional issues.

Egypt's Participation in BRFIC

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived on 24/4/2019 in China to take part in Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRFIC) in Beijing, slated for April 25 - 27, 2019. The Forum attended by about 37 heads of State and prime ministers, in addition to the UN secretary general and the chairwoman of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). During his stay, Sisi held talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang on means of bolstering strategic relations between the two countries.
