Egypt is working with Africa’s countries to silence guns and put an end to fighting across the continent by 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday May 25,2019.
The ministry’s remarks were made as part of the media campaign it launched on the occasion of Africa Day, which falls on May 25.
"Africa has gone a long way in overcoming several obstacles related to peace and security, but there is still a need for more joint action among African states to consolidate the elements of peace, security and stability in the continent," the ministry said.
It added that Egypt is well aware of the great responsibility it shoulders during its chairmanship of the African Union to coordinate the joint African action, especially in light of its adoption of the principle of "African solutions to African problems" as a mean of dealing with common challenges facing the continent’s states.
The ministry said Africa seeks to activate its framework policy for reconstruction and development in post-conflict periods, noting in this regard that a resolution was issued during the African Summit in July 2018 that Egypt would host the headquarters of an African center in this respect.
