Egypt leadership keen on ensuring constant observance of int'l agreements: Manpower Minister

Sunday، 16 June 2019 - 12:19 PM

Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan reviewed Saturday Egypt's efforts to comply with international labor standards.

This came during a meeting of the international labor standards committee held on the fringe of the 108th Session of the International Labor Conference, which kicked off on Monday in Geneva, Switzerland, and is scheduled to wrap up on June 21.

Safaan emphasized the Egyptian leadership's commitment to ensure constant observance of international standards in all fields, including health, education, trade, monetary policy and labor.

The minister posted attendees on the government efforts to pass several labor draft laws in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO), such as Law No. 213 /2017 on promulgating the Trade Union Law in Egypt.

A new labor law is currently under debate at the parliament, Safaan said.

Based on our belief in the importance of community dialogue for stable working relations, the prime minister issued a decree for constituting a supreme council for community dialogue, under the chairmanship of the manpower minister, to discuss any labor-related issues or laws, the minister said.

Appreciating fledgling unions' need for support, the government also accepted them as members of the newly established council, Safaan added, noting that his ministry always urges these unions to participate in any labor events, activities as well as any meetings tackling relevant national plans.

The government also provides these unions with necessary technical support on demand, Safaan further said, laying an emphasis on the government's keenness to deal with all parties on equal footing.
