Egypt renewed on Thursday June 20, 2019 its moral and legal commitment to better support refugees it hosts on its soil.
In a statement on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, the Foreign Ministry said the World Refugee Day represents a chance to remind the world of the suffering of more than 68 million people either refugees, or asylum seekers and internally-displaced persons as 80 percent of them live in developing countries and half of them are children.
The statement pointed out that Egypt hosts a large number of refugees from countries plagued by armed conflicts, wars, persecution, violence and inhumane conditions and offers legal protection and basic educational and health services for them.
The Foreign Ministry said Egypt cooperates with the international organizations that offer help to refugees world-wide calling on the international community to share the burdens of refugees as part of a joint responsibility.
It called for addressing the root causes of problems driving people to flee their homeland and seek refuge in other countries, finding lasting solutions for their suffering and raising awareness about their rights and humanitarian needs.
