Sisi okays amendments to law of establishing economic courts

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi approved law no. 146 of 2019 to amend some provisions of a law on the establishment of economic courts.
The law empowers economic courts to examine lawsuits arising from the offenses stated in the penal code for the crimes of counterfeit coins and money, as well as the crimes included in the law on insurance control, the joint stock company law, the limited partnership law, the limited liability companies' law and the one person companies' law.
According to the new legislation, those courts will have the power to hear lawsuits related to the crimes on leasing, investment, the central bank and the banking and monetary apparatuses, real estate financing, intellectual property, the IT industry, maritime trade, air transport of passengers and cargo, consumer protection, special economic zones, micro-finance, dumping, protection of competition, monopoly and communication regulation.
