Sisi attends celebration of 68th anniv. of Police Day

President Abdel El Fattah El Sisi attended Thursday a celebration held to mark the 68th anniversary of Police Day at the Police Academy in Fifth Settlement district in New Cairo.
The celebration was attended by House Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel Aal, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Defense Minister Mohammed Zaki, Interior Minister Mahmoud Taqwfik, Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb and Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese.
Also, a galaxy of ministers, members of the Police Supreme Council alongside senior statesmen were present at the celebration.
The ceremony started with a recitation of verses of the Holy Quran.
A documentary about police history since 1952 was then played.
It focused on the heroism of policemen who stood firm to protect the Canal city of Ismailia in a battle against the world's strongest army in 1952.
The documentary also pointed to efforts by policemen to secure the interior front in 1973.
In the 80s and 90s, policemen were there to counter terrorism and sacrifices were made to protect Egypt and its people.
A documentary about the achievements of the Interior Ministry during the previous year in combating terrorist groups was played at the ceremony.
The short film shed light on security efforts in fighting all the forms of criminal crimes was displayed then.
According to film, crime rate nationwide dropped by 6.5 percent, while arrests rate went up from 95 percent in 2018 to 97 percent in 2019.
Efforts excreted by of the Interior Ministry in combating drugs trafficking, illegal immigration, corruption, fraud and tax evasion were also highlighted by the film.
At the end of the ceremony, the president honored families of a number of police martyrs.
He also conferred the Order of Excellence, first and third classes, on several police officials.
