Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik said Thursday that the security situation in Egypt is stable despite the increasing threats of terrorism at the regional and international levels.
Addressing a celebration held to mark the 68th anniversary of Police Day, the interior minister hailed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's attendance at the ceremony which commemorates the great Ismailia battle which showed the heroism of the policemen who sacrificed their lives to protect the homeland.
Egypt's National Police Day is a remembrance of 50 police officers killed and more wounded when they refused British demands to hand over weapons and evacuate the Ismailia Police Station on 25 January 1952. The British Army surrounded the police station, then brought tanks in and took over the station.
Interior Minister Mahmoud Taqwfik said that the modern security strategy is based on several fundamental principles, topped by the successful preemptive security operations which target dismantling terrorist cells and uprooting them.
Acts of the terrorist cells are not limited to terror operations but are extending to the fourth and fifth generation wars to recruit the youth, the minister added during today's celebration held to mark the 68th anniversary of Police Day in the presence of President Sisi.
Security efforts have succeeded in firmly combating all forms of crime via adopting advanced scientific tools and modern techniques, Taqwfik said.
The Interior Ministry was keen to achieve a qualitative leap in its security performance through expanding the use of computer science applications and information and communication networks techniques to cope up with the digitization process in all fields, he added.
The interior minister said that the efforts of the policemen continue to improve the security services related to the daily lives of citizens
Receiving many security cadres from the Arab and African countries at Egypt's police academies stemmed from the country's key role at the regional and international levels, Tawfik added.
He attributed successes attained by the Interior Ministry to the great efforts exerted to develop its performance and enhance human efficiency via adopting a distinguished training system as well as cooperating and coordinating with the Armed Forces to counter terrorism and protect the home front.
He expressed appreciation to all policemen nationwide for their constant efforts and sacrifices to preserve the homeland's security and stability.
