Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy said he believes that Egypt is capable of impressing the world by its organization of the first ever Special Olympics Pan African Games that will be held during the period from January 23 to 31 in Cairo with the participation of 42 African countries.
The minister made the remarks in a press conference held on Thursday 23/01/2020 to uncover the details on the Special Olympics Pan-African Games.
Sobhy expressed his pleasure over holding the games under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, who he said was the first to back the issues of people with intellectual disabilities, citing Sisi's attendance at the opening ceremony of the eighth Special Olympics MENA Regional Games held in Cairo and issuance of the disability law in 2018.
Meanwhile, Regional President and Managing Director of the Middle East and North Africa region at the Special Olympics Ayman Abdel Wahab said that Egypt will organize a historic event at Cairo International and Air Defense Stadiums.
Some 800 players from 42 countries will participate in the games, competing in football, athletics, basketball and bocci.
