Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's "Etahadr Lelakhdar" or "Be civilized to the green" initiative sends a strong message that environment-related issues are of national priority for the political leadership.
In an interview with MENA Board Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Ali Hassan, the minister said that this initiative started with an idea, through studies on the environmental communications strategy that was conducted a year and a half ago.
The strategy was launched at the beginning of the parliament’s session at the Energy and Environment Committee's meeting to learn about the gaps facing us to raise awareness of environmental issues and their importance in our lives.
She further underlined that the choice of the word "green" as it is being known in the environmental community as everything that is environmentally friendly.
As for the word "civilized," it means going back to the ancient civilization, she added.
The implementation of the initiative will take three years, she said, adding that one year is not enough to reach the environmental awareness that we target for all citizens.
