Al Azhar conference on renovating Islamic discourse comes at a critical time: Mufti

Al Azhar Global Conference on Renovation of Islamic Discourse comes at a critical period and in response to repeated calls by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to renew religious discourse, Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam said on Monday 27/1/2020.

"Terrorism has no religion or homeland; neither is it based on any religious teachings. Rather it emanates from personal whims to serve particular agendas seeking to undermine global stability," Allam told Extra News channel on the fringe of the conference, which kicked off earlier in the day.

Allam underlined the great importance attached by President Sisi to renewing the religious discourse, especially in light of the ongoing crises sparked by terror groups, which affected almost every country around the world.

He called upon all religious scholars to work for renewing the religious discourse without compromising Islamic constants and values.

The conference will wrap up on Tuesday 28/1/2020.
