SIS Chairman participates in Conference on Language and Identity in Africa

Within the framework of efforts exerted by the State Information Service (SIS) for promoting Egyptian-African relations and discussing obstacles that may hinder the progress of these relations in a way that serves the peoples of Africa, SIS Chairman Ambassador Salah Abdel Sadeq on Sunday 5/4/2015 attended the Conference on Language, Identity and the Current Changes in Africa.
 
The event is organized by the Languages Department of the Institute of African Research and Studies at Cairo University. The conference was attended by President of Cairo University, Dr. Gaber Nassar and Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, Ambassador Sabry Magdy along with African ambassadors and foreign reporters accredited in Cairo.
 
The conference tackles several topics that would enrich language in Africa and the role of intellectuals and men of letters to maintain the African identity in addition to the role of the culture centers in promoting the use of Arabic in the African continent.
 
In his speech at the inaugural session of the conference, the SIS Chairman underlined the importance of such meetings that group Egyptian and African researchers and experts to exchange views and experience on Africa-related issues asserting the unity of the African peoples.
 
Ambassador Abdel Sadeq said that the major challenge facing development in any country is not merely poverty but lack of knowledge and the deterioration of education quality that cannot be tackled easily as most of the local languages are not written. Ambassador Abdel Sadeq highlighted on this score the necessity of combating the prevalence of foreign languages and taking pride in the Arab culture and Arabic as a living language which is capable of coping up with the successive developments. He underlined in this regard the importance of starting an awareness campaign for taking pride in the Arab identity and Arabic.
 
Ambassador Abdel Sadeq pointed out that the SIS is willing to extend all support and assistance to the Egyptian authorities and institutions with a view to boosting Egyptian-African relations in a way that would help Egypt restore its prestige and status in Africa.
