Egypt's National Day – July 23
Egypt celebrates its National Day on July 23, the day on which the 1952 Revolution broke out.
This day is not only significant to Egypt but is also important to the entire Arab nation, whose peoples were still suffering under foreign military occupation.
The 1952 Revolution was the flicker which sparked off liberation movements throughout Arab and Third World countries. An ambitious process of economic and social development followed which changed the face of Egypt.
With not a single drop of blood shed, the 1952 Revolution is also unique in that, unlike other military coups, it was launched by a young generation of officers, who were not members of any political party. Hence the sweeping support by Egyptians from all walks of life.
