In 1944, Mahmoud al-Hossari was commissioned by the Egyptian Radio Broadcasting Authority to recite the Quran on air.

In 1961,he recorded the Quran and recited in various Arab and Islamic countries as well as in Africa, Asia, Europe, the US and Russia.

He was the first to recite the Quran in the United Nations, the US Congress and the UK's Kings Hall.

He also was the first to call for the establishment of a Quran Reciters' Guild and the first Egyptian to be allowed to recite the Quran in Kaaba.

He accompanied former President Gamal Abdul-Nasser on his trips India and Pakistan (1960)

He was chosen to recite at the ceremony when electricity was first introduced in Mecca (1954)

Al- Hossary died on November 24, 1980
