Mervat Ameen

 

Mervat Amin was born on November 24, 1946 in al-Menya city.

She graduated from the faculty of Arts of Ain shams University; with a B.A degree from the department of English.

She began acting at the University theatre, participating in the play of “ya tala`a al-shagara” or “hey, you who`s climbing the tree” written by Tewfik Al Hakeem. After her graduation, she became a professional actress after her role on the stage in the play of “matar al- hob” or “The airport of love” with “Abdel-Moneim Madbouli”. She was discovered and presented by actor Ahmed Mazhar in the film of “The teenagers' love”.

She played the leading role with Abdel--Halim Hafiz in the film of "My Father is Over the Tree" in the year 1969; she also presented the film of “Gossips over the Nile” in 1971, directed by Hussein Kamal.

In the early 80`s, there was a new chapter in Amin`s career. She worked with director Ali Abdel-Khaliq in the film of "Love alone is not enough" in 1981. In 1983 she participated in the film of the late director Atef al-Tayeb “The Bus Driver” which gained a lot of attention and awards at that time.

Afterwards she took part in the film “The fare meter” with actor Ezzat al-Alaily and director Omar Abdel-Aziz. Amin`s most career-promoting film, however was “Wife of an important man” in 1988 with Ahmed Zaki.

Another important film in Amin`s life is "The clown" in 1989 with Omar al-Sharif and director Hani Lasheen.

In 2001, Amin was cast in the role of Mrs. Jihan al-Sadat in the film Ayam al-Sadat or “Days of Sadat” with Ahmed Zaki. Her latest film was “Morgan Ahmed Morgan” with Adel- Emam.
