Said Hedayyah

Said Hedayyah an Egyptian artist who was born in 1937. He was graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1963. He also had a post-graduate diploma in teaching. In 1972, he had a master's degree in art (with distinction) before he went on a scholarship to study art in Italy. He did courses in graphic in 1975 and in 1978 he had his PhD from the Higher Institute of Graphic.

Upon his return to Alexandria, Hedayyah was appointed assistant professor in 1979. He became a professor of graphic in 1986. Hedayyah, who is currently an emeritus professor of printmaking, was the Head of the Printmaking Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University from 1989 to 1997. Ten of Hedayyah's solo exhibitions took place during his travel study in Italy.

In the meantime, his works were on display at more than 30 group exhibitions, which were organised in Italian cities. Further, He represented Egypt in a huge number of international art events in world countries.

They include 15 art festivals, which took place in different German cities, exhibitions sponsored by Art Museum in Alexandria, Alexandria International Biennale, the General Exhibition in Egypt, the Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Paris (1981), the Exhibition of Modern Egyptian Art, the 7th and 9th Norway International Print Triennale, the week-long Egyptian Festival in India, the Egyptian Art Exhibition in Japan, the Egyptian Art Exhibition in China, Ljubljana Print Biennale in Yugoslavia, and the Exhibition of Non-Aligned Movement, which was organised by Tito Museum in Yugoslavia (1988).

Hedayyah's artistic creativity, moreover, earned him much admiration when he took part in exhibitions including one held in Austria to shed light on print creativity in Africa Asia and Latin America (1988), Japan International Print Exhibition (1989), the Exhibition of 50 Artists in Italy (1989), and Cracow International Print Biennale in Poland (1991). Throughout the 1990 Hedayyah's works were on display in so many art exhibitions and festivals.

In recognition of his innovative techniques his works were highlighted in printmaking encyclopedia in Japan. He also received many prizes, medals and certificates of honour. His works are also represented in the collection of art museums.
