Yehia Shahin
Yehia Shahin was born on the July 28, 1917 An actor and an artist who played many roles, like the unforgettable character of “El Said Ahmed Abd el gawad” or (si El said) the hero of the triology of Nagib Mahfouz. His talent was manifest at the time he was still a little child at Abdeen primary school then he completed his studies at the Abassia industrial school in which he was being watched by the late poet Ahmed Rami whom congratulated him on his great performance, as he graduated in 1935 he was employed at the company of spinning and weaving in (Almahala Al kobra),at that time he began to worry; fearing that this new career would take him away from the hobby which he loves (acting). His own fate led him to meet artist Bishara Wakim and artist Edman Toyman the manager of the royal Opera house theatre; and they both asked him to apply to the national acting team of Al Azbakia theatre; as they were in need for new faces then he moved to the acting troupe of the actress Fatma Roshdi and Aziz Eid, he joined them as he played the role of ”magnoon Laila“, after that the cinema attracted him giving him all the fame to become a superstar; as he took a major role in the film of (Dananeer) joining the first lady of all Arabic singing Om Kalthoum in the year 1940; then he was picked by Om Kolthoum to take the major role joining her in the film of (Aida),and also the film of(Salama) which in fact introduced Shahin to the real world of cinema in the year 1942, afterwards Shahin became a hero for films of the 40`s till the 80`s. Shahin had established a company for cinema production which he managed to present several movies through it. He was also a member of the actors` union foundation, he also presented many remarkable works for the Television; among them were: Sharaa al mawardi and al tahouna. Yehia Shahin performed in over 85 films for the cinema which are considered to be of the masterpieces of the Egyptian Cinema. Some of the awards that he had granted: The Premiere acting prize on the film ”erham demoui“, the prize of production on the film ”al malak al saghier“’ and the science and art award of the third degree from previous president Gamal Abd al Nasser. In the year 1980 he won the science and art award of the first degree as an executive engineer. In the year 1986 he was given by the mayor of Los Angeles a certificate of special appreciation. In the year 1987 he was given by the Cairo international cinema festival a certificate of appreciation for his major cinematic role. And in the year 1987 he won a prize from the committee of the industry of cinema and the prize of the Cairo cinema festival. some of his major works were: Dananeer, mehatet al ons, law kont ghani, Aida, Al motahama, bent el sheikh, Hababa, al mazahir, Salama, dahaia al madina, al nafkha al kadaba, gharam al shiuokh, awasef, rawia, addat ala qawaedha, al taesha, al reef al hazeen, Laila al amiria, qesma wa naseeb, Elham, ebn al neil, aina omry, demou`a sahebat al galala, mazbahit al shorafaa, kol haza al hob, al shaky a habibi, kanat malaka, agaib ya zman, al sokaria, fagr al islam, shaia men al azab, shaia men al khouf, rawa`it al hob, qasr al shoq, ragol wa emrattan, sobian wa banat, al moraheqan, makhlab al kot, zezit, ragol bela qalb, kahramana, la anam, oshaq al liel, al ghareeb, al arousa al saghira, fi sabeel al hob, marat al ayam, qariat al oushaq, al faress al aswad, moamara, gharam bothaina, tager al fadaih, saidat al qetar, slo qalbi, Zeinab, Fotna, fateh masr, darbit al qadar, sultanat al sahara, bein al qasrein and al ba`d yahish maratain. He died on the 18th of March 1994.
