Transfer of Tut's mummy for its protection

Dr. Zahi Hawas, Chief of Supreme Council of Antiquities, confirmed yesterday 6/11/2007 that the media coverage of the transfer of King Tutankhamun's mummy from its stone sarcophagus to a high-tech glass display case in his tomb in Luxor was available before all Egyptian and foreign media. The archaeologists' fear on the mummy could have been right if the mummy were to remain in the sarcophagus given that when it was checked in 2005, dust and salt were found, said Hawas.

Hence, we made a climate-controlled glass display case in Germany to show the mummy which was in a bad condition and consisted of 18 pieces where it was found broken since Howard Carter discovered it and removed the golden mask from the mummy in 1925, Hawas added.
