Suzanne Mubarak & Prince Charles open today Tutankhamen exhibition in London
 


Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak and Prince Charles of Wales ‎will open "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the ‎Pharaohs" exhibition in London today13/11/2007.‎ The exhibition will open to the public ‎Wednesday14/11/2007. Mrs. Mubarak arrived in ‎London later12/11/2007.‎

Around 131 artifacts from the tombs of the boy-king ‎Tutankhamun and other kings, discovered in the ‎Valley of Kings in Luxor, will be on display during the ‎nine-month exhibition to be held at the 02 arena, ‎formerly known as Millennium Dome in Greenwich. ‎

Among the dazzling pieces will be the royal diadem, a ‎gold crown encircling the head of the king's ‎mummified body.‎

So far, 132,000 tickets have been sold to those wishing ‎to see the 3,000 to 3,500-year-old golden treasures of ‎the boy king. The artifacts of King Tut were last on ‎display in Britain in 1972, setting attendance records ‎worldwide.‎

Dr. Wafaa Sediq, Curator of the Egyptian Museum, ‎and Secretary-General of the external exhibition ‎committee, said that Egypt gained almost $ 47 million ‎from King Tut's tour in 4 American cities in addition ‎to London, where the exhibition kicks off today.‎

This number represents a direct and indirect financial ‎return to Egypt; as the Tut agreements stipulate that ‎Egypt gets a certain amount of money for the ‎exhibition and 10% when the number of visitors ‎exceeds 650,000 thousand visitors.‎

She added, that is why Egypt earned $ 3 million when ‎King Tut visited Los Angeles; in addition to $ 3 million ‎because the exhibition was visited by 857,000 visitors.‎

Moreover, Egypt gained $ 830,000 as returns for ‎selling souvenirs on the sidelines of the exhibition.‎

Dr. Wafaa Sediq also said that Egypt will get $ 8,5 ‎million, in addition to the expected percentage, ‎according to the agreement.‎

In case the number of visitors exceeds 650,000, Egypt ‎will get a $ million for each 100,000 visitors let alone ‎the return expected from selling souvenirs.‎

A fund-raising campaign for the Suzanne Mubarak ‎Children Museum will be launched from the British ‎Museum today13/11/2007.‎

‎ Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak will attend the launching ‎ceremony. The campaign is launched by senior ‎governmental and non-governmental British figures. ‎

Mrs. Mubarak's museum, considered among the best ‎and giant museums for children in the Arab world, is ‎now under restoration by a specialized team grouping ‎Egyptian and foreign experts. ‎

The restoration process is supervised by the ‎Association for the Development Services in the ‎Community of Heliopolis, which is headed by Mrs. ‎Mubarak.‎

The museum offers educational and cultural services ‎at the highest levels. The development of the museum ‎is being financed by personal efforts and donations.‎
