Salute to the great Egyptian people While we are celebrating the anniversary of the glorious war of October, we must salute the great Egyptian people who refused to surrender to the defeat of 1967. We must also salute our Egyptian military that decided to prepare itself after the set back for October war to restore the military honor and dignity of the armed forces of Egypt. The war of attrition was very important for preparing the Egyptian fighter to defeat the legendary of the Israeli soldiers after the set back of 1967. In fact the reason of the war of attrition was not only for disturbance as it formed a critical phase after the defeat of June 1967 thus it is important to discuss the concept of the war of attrition from an academic point of view. It is very important to clarify the relation between the war of attrition and the preparations for launching October war 1973 which changed the regional and international equations. One of the fallacies in the political and personal struggle is that some people see that the war of attrition and October war are the same while others try to deform the historical value of the war of attrition. The two parties are wrong as one party sees that the war of attrition is a serious mistake, the other party considers it a great victory similar to October war while there is a third party describes it as a stagnant quagmire in which the Egyptian Armed Forces fall in it. The military science as studied in the strategic science institutions states that the war of attrition is a known strategy and not an innovation in the military strategy. The war of attrition is not enough to achieve a final victory but it is very important in the preparations for the termination phase as it uncover the real abilities of the other party. The war of attrition was the perfect preparation politically and spiritually before lunching October war to regain the military honor and dignity which naturally brought about the defeat of 1967. If the only result of the war of attrition is regaining the confidence of the Egyptian soldier then it is enough as it represent one of the main braces for October victory 1973.
