Hail to the October Heroes

35 years have passed since the October 1973 victory; a victory achieved under the leadership of the late President Anwar al-Sadat. It was then Commander of the Egyptian Air Force Hosni Mubarak who was in charge of the opening air strike.

On October 6, 1973, Egyptian forces crossed the Suez Canal and destroyed the Barlev Line, which military experts said could not be taken down except by an atomic bomb. Our sons used water hoses instead. Egypt's flag was then hoisted on the eastern bank of the Canal.

Greetings be to our brave soldiers who conquered the 1967 setback and liberated Sinai. The great crossing marked the beginning of Egypt's development.

Sinai has become a symbol of the Egyptian people's resolve to realize their country's goals.

This blessed part of Egypt is famous for its fertile soil and for its mineral wealth.
