Mustafa KamelThe nationalist leader, Mustafa Kamel February 10, 1908, died at age 34. Kamel dedicated his life to the cause of liberating his country, Egypt, from British occupation. Born in 1874, Kamel was seen as the driving force of the Egyptian national liberation movement, which had suffered a setback following the defeat of the Orabi Revolution in 1882 and the consequent British occupation. Kamel obtained his Bachelor of Law from the Egyptian School of Law in 1891. He traveled to France, where he obtained a law degree from the School of Law, Toulouse, in 1899. In 1907, Kamel established the Egyptian National Party. His main goal was to mobilize the Egyptian people against the British occupation seeking to achieve independence. Kamel was known as a unique speaker and eloquent orator. He took the struggle against the British occupation to France and other European countries. He sought to expose the notorious practices of the occupation forces against the Egyptians, with a view to garnering world support for ending the occupation of Egypt. |
