panorama

This is the October War Panorama a unique cultural, artistic and architectural achievement. Moreover, it is a major tourist attraction.

The Panorama has been set up to immortalize Egypt’s triumphant war of October 1973. it is constructed over an area of 7.5 feddans ( around 32.000 square meters ). It is a cylinder-shaped building moulded in Islamic architectural style.

From within, the October war is reconstructed in a panoramic life-like manner. And next to the main building are two halls, one on the right and the other on the left. In these, various models of weapons and relief maquettes showing the course of action on display.

There are also two open show-platforms right and left to the building’s main entrance. Each is 1000 square meters. The right-hand platform displays samples of Egyptian aircrafts that carried out the first sortie that successfully paved the way for the glorious October Victory.

The left-hand platform displays samples of Israeli armaments including tanks seized by Egypt in the October War.

In the main hall, there is a giant mosaic plate replicating a photograph that was taken inside the Armed Forces Operations Room during the charting out of the war plan.

There are also six relief plates recounting the triumphs of the Egyptian people during their struggle against colonialists from Pharaonic times till the hoisting of the Egyptian flag over Taba. Beneath these plates, the names of Egyptian October martyrs are inscribed.
