The Central Agency for Public Mobilization & Statistics (CAPMAS) is the official source of statistical data and reports on Egypt for all state agencies and international organizations. Such data and reports are essential inputs for planning, development and policy making.
CAPMAS duties are set out in the Law No.35 of the year 1960, as modified by the law No.28 of the year 1982 and the Presidential Decree No. 2915 of the year 1964. To provide the credible and scientifically based data which conforms to the international standards, CAPMAS adheres to the fundamental principles for official statistics adopted by the Statistical Commission of the United Nations.
CAPMAS is pleased to provide data users with this booklet (Egypt in Figures), which contains the most important demographic and socio-economic data as well as a number of statistical indicators on Egypt. The handbook serves as a brief, yet comprehensive, reference for such statistical data.
CAPMAS, in its quest to respond to the needs of various data users and to update continuously its data, issues three publications a year. The said publications feature demographic and socio-economic data at three levels and at specified timing. Firstly, The Statistical Yearbook, which appears in September, is the most comprehensive of all three publications and it contains many detailed data and time series. Secondly, the booklet, Egypt in Figures, appears in March with less detailed data. Thirdly, A Statistical Abstract appearing in June contains abridged & aggregated data.
Above publications are accessible on CAPMAS website (http://www.capmas.gov.eg) for free. For more details information, users are advised to consult CAPMAS Statistical Yearbook, specialized bulletins and studies.
