Monday، 09 November 2015 12:00 AM

Egypt and the Netherlands have distinguished economic and trade relations, where the two sides seek promoting it within the upcoming years. The trade volume mounts annually to about one billion Euros. The most important Egyptian exports to the Netherlands are vegetables, fruit, grains, petroleum and its products, yarn, carpets, ready-made clothes, iron and its products. On the other hand, the most important Dutch exports to Egypt are meat, fish and dairy, chemical and petrochemical products, oil, fertilizers, electrical and medical appliances. The Partnership Agreement between Egypt and the European Union concluded in 2004 contributed to promoting growth of bilateral trade relations.

The Netherlands considers Egypt as a promising market characterized by the presence of an internal major market on the one hand and a distinct role in the region on the other. The Netherlands is aware of the good investment opportunities in Egypt, particularly in the sectors of transportation, telecommunications, infrastructure, water, and agriculture. The Netherlands ranks sixth on the world list of countries investing in Egypt, where the Dutch investments in Egypt in 2008 valued about 6.5 billion Egyptian pounds, directed to the sectors of industry, agriculture, finance, services, constructions, tourism, communications and information.

On the other hand, the Netherlands' assistance to Egypt mounts to about 75 million euros annually. The Dutch Development Cooperation Programme with Egypt aims at helping achieve sustainable economic and social development. It is devoted to the implementation of projects in the areas of poverty alleviation, environmental protection, health   improvement, creating equal opportunities for women, water resources management, human rights improvement and establishing democracy.

Egypt and the Netherlands are bound by distinct relations in the field of irrigation and water resources, where the Dutch/Egyptian Council for Water celebrated 30 years of its foundation in 2006, and is convened annually and regularly between the two countries.
