The bilateral relations have recently witnessed notable impetus, represented in exchanging senior-level visits, especially the visit of Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov to Egypt on November 24th and 25th, 2010. During his visit, Azarov headed a delegation comprising Ukrainian ministers, governmental senior officials, and businessmen.
On December 7th, 2010, the bilateral relations witnessed a vital and eventful period, which included the visit of the former Foreign Minister to Ukraine. This visit was the first of its kind to be paid by an Egyptian Foreign Minister to Ukraine, and resulted in giving the Egyptian-Ukrainian relations notable momentum.
On November 22nd and 23rd, 2010, the convention of the Sixth Round of Egyptian-Ukrainian Joint Governmental Committee, in Cairo, contributed to introducing the bilateral relations to broader horizons and giving momentum to the Egyptian-Ukrainian relations.
From January to October 2009, the value of bilateral trade exchange mounted to USD 815 million, compared to around USD 1.4 billion for the same period of the year before.
In September 2009, the volume of Ukrainian investments in Egypt mounted to USD 227 thousand, most of which are invested in mining and agricultural machinery. Ukraine ranks 81st among the countries investing in Egypt.
In March 2009, the Egyptian investments in Ukraine reached USD 2.4 million.
In October 2008, "Naftogaz of Ukraine" and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) cooperate in prospecting for oil and natural gas in "Alam El-Shawish" in the Egyptian Western Desert. The Ukrainian company embarked on the prospecting process, and as of February 18th, 2009, 80 tons of crude oil are daily extracted.
In June 2008, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education, the Egyptian Centre for Cultural Studies and Arabic language was established in “Shevchenko National University”, in Kiev. The Centre was opened, and organizes lectures on political, literary and artistic topics.
In June 2008, the last round for political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries was held in Kiev.
On May 20th to 23rd, 2008, the Fifth Round of the Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in Kiev under the chairmanship of Minister of International Cooperation.
In April 2007, the Egyptian satellite EGYPTSAT-1 was launched from Kazakhstan on board the Ukrainian rocket “DNEPR”. The new satellite is the product of Egyptian-Ukrainian expertise, and used in determining the urban and agricultural areas and combating desertification.
