The Egyptian Rwandan trade relations enjoy the privileges of the COMESA, and the Egyptian products are witnessing an increasing demand in the Rwandan market allowing the Egyptian exports to reach 14 million dollars in 2009 from 12 million dollars in 2008. There was not any direct export operation from Rwanda to the Egyptian market during the same period.

Egyptian-Rwandan Joint Commission

The Egyptian Rwandan Joint Commission was established in September 1989, and the second round of this Joint Commission was held in Cairo from 7th to 10th of September 2009, presided by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries, and it witnessed the signing of ten documents of cooperation in different fields including Economical and Technical Cooperation, Agriculture, Customs, Youth, Industrial Development, Petroleum and Mineral resources, Education, Health, Culture, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

Contractual Framework

The Legal framework between Egypt and Rwanda is embodied in 19 Agreements, and Memorandum of Understandings signed between both countries in different fields:

  • Agreement of Aviation Cooperation signed on 17/7/1977, and entered into force on 19/11/1979.
  • Agreement on Scientific, Cultural, and Technical Cooperation signed on 10/10/1977, and entered into force on 22/1/1978.
  • Agreement on Trade Cooperation signed on 7/2/1979, and entered into force on 8/1/1990.
  • Agreement on Technical Cooperation with the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa signed in 1/11/1982, and renewed on 3/4/2007.
  • Agreement on the establishment of the Egyptian Rwandan Joint Permanent Commission, signed on 10/9/1989.
  • MOU for cooperation in the agreed fields and issues of the Nile Basin Initiative signed on 16/11/1999.
  • MOU on Regular Diplomatic consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs signed on 4/4/2007.
  • MOU of cooperation between the Egyptian Diplomatic Institute and the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed on 4/4/2007.
  • Agreement on Economical and Technical Cooperation, signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Cooperation in the field of Agriculture signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Cooperation in the field of Customs signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Cooperation in the field of Youth signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Cooperation in the field of Industrial Development signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Cooperation in the field of Petroleum and Mineral resources signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Cooperation in the field of Education signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Cooperation in the field of Health signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Scientific and Technological Cooperation signed on 10/9/2009.
  • MOU of Cooperation in the field of Culture signed on 10/9/2009.
