47th session of Cairo International Book Fair

Theme: Culture in confrontation
January 27 to February 10, 2016

The 47th session of Cairo International Book Fair is set to open on January 27 to February 10, under the theme of "Culture in confrontation" with the participation of 34 countries, including several Arab and African countries. The participants include Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Oman, Palestine, Jordan, Libya, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon, Qatar and Eritrea. Also foreign countries are taking part including Italy, Russia, Azerbaijan, India, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Greece, China, Kazakhstan and Paraguay.

Up to 850 publishers will participate, including 50 foreigners, 250 Arab and 550 Egyptian publishers.

Bahrain will be the guest of honor this year. It will present a variety of its cultural and artistic activities along with with movies and documentaries about its history.

Figure of the Year in this session is the Egyptian writer Gamal al-Ghitani, who passed away in October 2015.

There will be about 50 books in all arts creativity of short stories, novels, travel narratives, war narratives and archaeological record of the history of places, in addition to the life of the major figures in literature and press, including Naguib Mahfouz and Tawfiq al-Hakim.

There will be a cultural and artistic activity this year. The main focus of the exhibition is the "culture in confrontation". Also a number of seminars will be held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of Naguib Mahfouz,

For the first time this year, poetry of Nizar Qabbani, Mahmoud Darwish, Abdel Rahman el-Abnudi and other senior poets as well as the most prominent debates such as Farag Foda's debate will be presented at the fair.

This year, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts Sector will also participate in the event. The Fine Arts Sector will participate in four exhibitions and workshops on drawing on the asphalt.
