The 27th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs slated for March 2017 will focus on the role of leaders and decision makers in the political, parliamentary, and intellectual and media domains in spreading the culture of peace and confronting terror, the Awqaf minister said.

During a ceremony on Thursday marking the anniversary of Prophet Muhammad's birthday, Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa welcomed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Grand Imam of Azhar Ahmed Tayyeb and Egypt's Mufti Shawky Allam.

Gomaa noted that within the framework of Egypt's First Youth Conference that was held in Sharm el Sheikh under the auspices of the president, the ministry held a competition among university students under the theme of youth’s role in disseminating the culture of tolerance and peace and confronting extremist thought.

Gomaa thanked the president for his interest in rectifying the religious discourse.

The minister presented a copy of the Qura'n as a present to Sisi in appreciation for his efforts to serve Islam and the nation. (MENA)
