The Armed Forces announced that the naval forces, in cooperation with main military branches, implement an overall plan of action to face all kinds of security threats and challenges and protect the Egyptian coasts against any perils.

The plan also aims at preserving Egypt's national security and securing new oil discoveries in the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, along with fighting illegal immigration, smuggling and infiltration attempts, the Armed Forces said in an official press release.

The naval units work round the clock to guard strategic targets in the sea, as well as Egyptian ports and coasts, the press release read.

They also play a pivotal role in fighting terrorism, cutting terrorists' logistics supply lines and thwarting smuggling and infiltration attempts across the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea, the Armed Forces said.
