Friday، 13 April 2018 - 11:21 AM

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry said Egypt has invited Sudan and Ethiopia to hold another tripartite meeting on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in Cairo.

In press statements on Thursday 12/04/2018, Shoukry underlined that the foreign and irrigation ministers, as well as intelligence chiefs of the three countries will attend the meeting, which reflects Egypt's keenness to reach joint understanding.

He pointed out that all three countries work within a specific time frame, a month from the first meeting, which ends on May 5.

On the talks recently held in Khartoum, Shoukry explained that leaders of the three countries seek to remove any obstacles facing the technical process of implementing the declaration of principles agreement that has been signed previously among the three countries.

He pointed out that a path was set in accordance with the declaration of principles, but it faced an obstacle which the leaders of the three countries directed to remove so that the consulting firms can complete their technical studies of the dam, its operation and the impact on the Uprstream countries.

Shoukry underlined that the meeting held in Khartoum was characterized by transparency and in-depth handling of several issues, but it did not result in any outcome.

He stressed the importance of concluding the studies of the dam and removing the obstacle facing its technical studies.

Minister Shoukry also asserted that all parties are looking forward to continue the path of negotiations and reaching to positive outcomes in view of the positive stances of each party.
