Armed Forces Spokesman Colonel Tamer el Rifai said Thursday that an explosion took place in one of the storehouses of Heliopolis Company for Chemical Industries as a result of high temperature caused by the hot weather.

He said fire engines rushed to the scene of the explosion to put out the fire resulting from the explosion.

Meanwhile, a security source at the Interior Ministry said civil protection forces have successfully contained a fire that broke out at a storehouse of Heliopolis Company for Chemical Industries Thursday night.

The source said 12 fire engines and two water tank trucks rushed to the scene of the fire to contain it.

Twelve persons were injured and were moved to hospital to receive treatment, the source added.

In the same context, reliable sources said Thursday that an investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the outbreak of a fire at one of the storehouses of Heliopolis Chemical Industries Company in order to avoid a recurrence of such kind of incidents.

The sources denied reports on the halt of aviation movement at Cairo International Airport terming them as "mere rumors".

The sources explained that precautionary measures have been taken at the airport to ensure the safety of passengers and make certain that the heavy smoke caused by the fire would not hinder the departure and landing of planes.
