Bibliotheca Alexandrina pays great attention to documenting Arab memory, said BA Director Dr Moustafa el Fiqi.
This is particularly important given the destruction caused to the Arab civilization and cultural heritage, Fiqi said during an inking ceremony of a loan agreement to be offered by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) to support an "Arab Memory" portal.
Attending the inking ceremony was also Dr Suleiman Harbash, the Director General of the OFID.
Fiqi said Harbash could be seen as a model of Arab intellects who support cultural development in the Arab world.
Harbash said that the OFID works with its partners in developing countries, achieving economic development, reducing poverty and supporting infrastructure projects and cultural development.
He added that it will be working with the BA to document the legacy of the Arab peoples, preserve their cultural identity and protect human heritage.
